Modesto, CA – Prelander Berroa worked six strong innings against the Modesto Nuts in their 9-2 loss against the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.

The Nuts (36-24) had a couple of chances early when Victor Labrada singled in the first inning as part of a two-hit day. A double play erased him in a scoreless first. The Nuts had two singles in the second inning, but Robert Perez Jr. was thrown out at third trying to go first-to-third on a single to right. Matt Scheffler walked but the next two hitters were turned away.

The Nuts pushed across only an unearned run in the fifth when the Giants (38-23) made a pair of two-out errors. Berroa (W, 2-3) worked six innings allowing just an unearned run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Josias De Los Santos (L, 3-5) worked six innings for the Nuts allowing five runs on seven hits. De Los Santos surrendered a two-run homer to Jairo Pomares in the second inning. A sac fly in the fifth and eighth added to the Giants lead.

Jimmy Glowenke singled home a run in the sixth. He added a two-run double in the seventh as park of a three-hit day. Abdiel Layer added a two-run single in the seventh.

Travis Kuhn worked two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth innings out of the Nuts’ bullpen.

Game two between the Nuts and Giants is at 7:05 pm on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
