PAWTUCKET, R.I. - The Norfolk Tides (50-70) took the middle game of this three-game series with the Pawtucket Red Sox (52-68) in ten innings by a 5-4 final.
After the Tides scored in the first inning last night, the PawSox scored in the first inning tonight. Pawtucket got its first run on a sacrifice fly from Bobby Dalbec. Two more crossed home plate on Gorkys Hernández's two-run single. The PawSox sent eight men to the plate in the first.
Norfolk got on the board in the second inning after Rylan Bannon brought home a run on a sacrifice fly of his own.
The PawSox got the run back in the bottom of the second. C.J. Chatham drove in his first run at the Triple-A level on a sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.
In the third, Mason Williams, the Pawtucket native, deposited a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence for a two-run home run that cut the Norfolk deficit to 4-3. The next batter, Austin Hays, singled, and then Austin Wynns tied the game with an RBI single.
The game remained scoreless until the tenth inning. With the bases loaded, Austin Hays drew a walk to put Norfolk in front for good.
After 4.2 innings from their starter Bruce Zimmermann, the Tides got 5.1 scoreless innings of relief from Jay Flaa, Hunter Harvey, Hunter Cervenka, and Tayler Scott.
PawSox starter Erasmo Ramírez went six innings surrendering eight hits and four earned runs. He walked two and struck out five.
The PawSox wrap up their three-game series with the Tides tomorrow afternoon at McCoy at 12:05 p.m.
Right-hander Josh Smith (5-2, 4.76 ERA) will toe the rubber for Pawtucket. Righty David Hess (2-1, 4.15 ERA) will get the ball for Norfolk.
Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 11:35 a.m.
This homestand runs through Sunday, August 18. Friday, August 16 will feature a Red Sox World Series championship replica ring giveaway for the first 3,000 fans in attendance. On Saturday, August 17, fans can enjoy post-game fireworks set to country music. The first 5,000 fans in attendance on Sunday will receive a PawSox Baseball Card Set. Sunday will also be another Family FunDay, during which fans can play catch on the field before the game and run the bases after the game.
