SALEM, Va. (August 23, 2019) - Heavy rain and wet grounds forced Friday's game between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and the Salem Red Sox to be suspended with the teams tied 4-4 in the top of the 11th inning. The game will be finished on Saturday, beginning at 5:05 p.m. and will be followed by a nine-inning game which will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

The Red Sox did not take long to get to Pelicans' starter Bryan Hudson in the series opener. Salem plated four runs and as a team they hit for the cycle in the first inning. Tanner Nishioka started the ballgame with a double and advanced to third on a Ryan Fitzgerald single to place runners on the corners with no outs.
Devlin Granberg then plated the first run of the game for the Red Sox as he bounced out to second and Nishioka scored and made it 1-0 Salem. Keith Curcio then tripled home a run to extend the lead to 2-0 and Kole Cottam capped off the inning with a two-run homer and the Red Sox led 4-0 after an inning.
The Pelicans responded in the fourth inning with three runs of their own. After Delvin Zinn singled to open the frame, Grant Fennell blasted a two-run homer to left to cut the gap to 4-2.
Myrtle Beach tacked on another run when Cam Balego grounded into a double play which allowed Miguel Amaya to score from third and after four innings, the Birds trailed 4-3.
In the sixth inning, the Pelicans evened the score at 4-4 on a solo homer from Amaya to lead off the inning.
Late in the contest, the bullpens buckled down and kept hitters at bay and the game went to extra innings with the score tied at 4-4.
After the Pelicans and Sox each went without a run in the tenth inning, the heavens opened and the tarp was put on the field. After a delay of 40 minutes, the field was deamed unfit to finish the game and it was suspended prior to the 11th.
Myrtle Beach will send RHP Javier Assad (4-9, 3.99) to the hill in game two against Enmanuel De Jesus (7-9, 3.98) for the Red Sox. Coverage starts at 4:50 p.m. on MyrtleBeachPelicans.com/Broadcast and the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Apps.
