Rancho Cucamonga, CA – Luis Diaz’s two-out triple in the eighth gave the Quakes the lead for good, as Rancho Cucamonga won their fourth straight game overall, defeating Visalia on Thursday night by a final of 8-6 at LoanMart Field.

Tied at 4-4 in the last of the eighth, Diaz tripled home three runs to break a 4-4 tie, as the Quakes won their third consecutive game against Visalia to open their final six-game series of the 2021 season.

The Rawhide scored three first-inning runs and owned a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning.

Rancho got on the board in the last of the fifth, as Imanol Vargas singled home Jake Vogel to make it 3-1.

The Rawhide answered in the following inning, as Shane Muntz blasted his first homer of the year, giving Visalia a 4-1 lead.

Rancho responded in the bottom of the frame, then added another in the seventh, cutting the deficit to just a run at 4-3.

In the last of the eighth, Visalia reliever Bryan Castillo (0-1) ran into serious trouble, as he walked the first three hitters he faced to load the bases. The Rawhide would make a pitching change, as Eric Mendez would come in the game and immediately strike out Edwin Mateo for the first out. But Mendez faultered, as he walked Luke McKenzie on a 3-2 pitch, forcing home a run to tie the game at 4-4. Mendez bounced back to strike out Vargas, but allowed the three-run triple to Diaz, who put the Quakes in the lead at 7-4. Diaz later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Quakes some additional insurance at 8-4.

In the ninth, Visalia pushed across a pair of runs against Braydon Fisher (4-3), but Carlos De Los Santos retired both men he faced to earn his third save of the year.

On Friday, the Quakes (66-51) will send Nick Nastrini (0-0) to the mound against Visalia’s Avery Short (1-5) at 6:30pm.
