Torres Stays Hot; Claws Win 8-3 For Third Straight W

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - McCarthy Tatum and Johan Rojas homered while Nicolas Torres drove in three and the BlueClaws bested Greensboro 8-3 on Saturday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Jersey Shore (52-59) has now won three straight games for the seventh time this year. They dropped the first two to Greensboro (71-42) before winning the next three.

The BlueClaws scored runs in each of the first three innings. Nicolas Torres' SAC fly put Jersey Shore up 1-0. Nate Fassnacht doubled home a run in the second before Torres singled in a run in the bottom of the third to put the BlueClaws up 3-1.

Greensboro inched back in the game with runs to tie the score in both the fourth and fifth innings before a big BlueClaws fifth.

Torres, who has hit safely in 18 of 20 games with Jersey Shore, singled in a run to put Jersey Shore up 4-3. Then McCarthy Tatum smashed his fourth home run of the year, a three-run shot onto the berm above the left field wall.

Johan Rojas added a home run in the eighth, his third of the year, to put the BlueClaws up 8-3.

Mark Potter (2-2) earned the win while JP Woodward (1.2 innings) and Tom Sutera (2.1 innings) combined on four scoreless to close out the game.

Simon Muzziotti, Torres, and Nick Matera each had two hits for the BlueClaws.

Before the game, fans took part in a 9/11 Remembrance Walk to honor victims of the 9/11 terror attacks 20 years ago Saturday.

The BlueClaws have one more home game this year, Sunday at 1:05 pm.
