Jose Salvador pitched seven shutout innings, and Straton Podaras pushed a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to give the Tri-City Dust Devils (27-30) a 2-0 win over the Everett AquaSox (29-31) Friday night at Funko Field.

Salvador (1-1) struck out five, while walking only one, in just his second game at the High-A level. He gave up five hits along the way, but also did not allow a runner to reach scoring position due to his defense behind him turning three double plays to get outs on the basepaths.

The lefty from the Dominican Republic, though, was matched by a fellow Dominican, Everett’s Juan Mercedes. Mercedes also threw seven scoreless innings and retired the first 14 Dust Devils he faced before Edwin Yon singled in the 5th inning.

Podaras’ home run came in the top of the 8th inning, on a 2-2 pitch from AquaSox reliever Brendan McGuigan (0-2). Steven Rivas, who reached on an error on a routine ground ball, scored in front of the Tri-City catcher. It was Podaras’ 5th home run of the season.

Emilker Guzman and Nathan Burns supplied scoreless innings to finish the combined shutout, with Burns recording his second save of the season.

With the win the Dust Devils tied the series at two games apiece and moved to 11-5 against Everett in 2022, a far cry from their 4-14 mark against the AquaSox last season.

The two teams face off in game five of their six-game series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night at Funko Field. Ryan Costeiu gets the start for Tri-City, and Prelander Berroa draws the Dust Devils for the third time this year.
