Tovar Blasts Two Homers in Yard Goats Win

Bowie, MD- Ezequiel Tovar blasted two home runs, and Brenton Doyle broke a 3-3 tie with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning as the Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Bowie Baysox 4-3 on Friday evening at Prince George’s Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. Yard Goats starter Nick Bush turned in a quality start in six innings and Stephen Jones and Gavin Hollowell worked three scoreless innings as the Yard Goats defeated Bowie for the fourth time in five games to win their fourth consecutive series. Yard Goats catcher Daniel Cope began the scoring with a solo homer in the third inning. Hartford has won 12 of its last 16 games.

The Yard Goats scored two runs in the third inning on a pair of solo home runs off Baysox starter Garrett Stallings. Cope cranked his third homer over the left field fence for the first run of the game and Tovar got the green light on a 3-0 pitch and ripped it over the left field wall, giving the Yard Goats a 2-0 lead.

Bowie tied the game in the fifth inning as Maverick Hanley belted a two-run homer off Yard Goats starter Nick Bush. Hartford took a 3-2 lead as Tovar led off the sixth inning with a home run, his second multiple homer game of the season. The Orioles affiliate tied the game in the sixth when Shayne Fontana connected on his fourth homer, on an 0-2 pitch, to make it 3-3.

The Yard Goats took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning off reliever Tyler Burch. The Yard Goats loaded the bases with nobody out on a single, walk, and error. After Burch got a strikeout, Brenton Doyle hit a deep fly to right field and Isaac Collins scored to give the Yard Goats a one-run lead.

The Yard Goats conclude a six-game series with the Orioles affiliate, the Bowie Baysox, on Sunday afternoon at 1:05. RHP Noah Davis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Ryan Watson will start for the Baysox. The game will be broadcast on Newsradio 1410 WPOP. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Tuesday, May 31st at 7:05 to host the Phillies affiliate, the Reading Fightin Phils.
