CORPUS CHRISTI – A two-out, eighth-inning RBI double from Zach DeLoach was the difference Tuesday night in Arkansas’ 7-6 win over Corpus Christi at Whataburger Field.
The Hooks erased a 6-1 deficit by plating a pair in the sixth before scoring three times in the seventh. Shay Whitcomb led the charge for Corpus Christi offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBIs.
After permitting a first-inning marker, veteran right-hander Connor Jones held the Hooks to two hits until his exit with two out and the bases clear in the fifth.
Braden Shipley picked up the hold by penning a perfect eighth for the Travelers. Michael Stryffeler survived two walks in the ninth by inducing a game-ending double play, the third twin-killing turned by Arkansas on the night.
The Travelers were outhit, 7-6, but capitalized on 11 Corpus Christi walks.
Joe Record and Jonathan Sprinkle each turned in a scoreless frame of relief for the Hooks.
Corpus Christi aims to stop a three-game slide with Jimmy Endersby on the mound Wednesday night. Arkansas is set to counter with George Kirby. First pitch 6:35.
