Yard Goats Denied of Third Straight Win  
Binghamton, NY- The Binghamton Rumble Ponies scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie and, defeated the Hartford Yard Goats by the score of 4-2 on Friday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. It was the first game of the final series of the season. Hartford starting pitcher Matt Whitehouse turned in a quality start and allowed just one run in six innings. Binghamton pitching combined for 14 strikeouts, including ten by starter David Peterson. The Yard Goats were eliminated from the playoffs but still have the chance to establish their best record in franchise history, 74-67 in 2016.
The Yard Goats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a fielding error which scored Vance Vizcaino. Vizcaino led off the inning with a single and was balked to second base. Manny Melendez followed with a dribbler to the right of the mound. Rumble Ponies pitcher David Peterson fielded the ball quickly but his throw was over the head of first baseman Patrick Mazieka allowing Vizcaino to score and give Hartford a 1-0 lead.
The Rumble Ponies tied the game in the fourth inning on Dustin Houle's RBI double which scored Jeremy Vazquez. Binghamton rallied for two runs with two outs in the seventh off reliever Jordan Foley. Andrés Giménez singled home Cody Bohanek to make it 2-1 Ponies and Edgardo Fermin stole home as part of a double steal, putting the home team ahead 3-1.
Binghamton's David Peterson surrendered hits to the first two batters, and then only allowed two more baserunners over the next five innings with 10 strikeouts, no hits and retired 16 consecutive hitters.
The Yard Goats got a run in the eighth inning on Scott Burcham's pinch-hit run scoring single but the Rumble Ponies scored again in the bottom of the inning to make it 4 -2.
