Tides Clinch Series Win After Plating 11 Runs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Norfolk Tides (19-22) defeated the Charlotte Knights (16-25), 11-6, on Saturday night at Truist Field. The Tides have clinched the series, winning four of their last five games.

Norfolk exploded for four runs in the third inning. Cadyn Grenier roped an RBI double to score the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Robert Neustrom blasted a three-run shot down the right field line, scoring three runs to make it 4-0, Tides. Charlotte came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Carlos Perez blasted his ninth home run of the season to score their first two runs of the night. Micker Adolfo later doubled to score a third run, cutting Norfolk’s lead to 4-3.

Both teams reached six runs by the end of the sixth. Yolbert Sanchez tied the game for Charlotte with an RBI double in the fith, then scored on a single by Perez to take the lead. Jacob Nottingham responded with a two-run homer to take the lead for the Tides. The Knight’s tied the game in the bottom half of the sixth on a single by Ryder Jones.

The go-ahead runs were scored by the Tides in the eighth inning by scoring five. With the bases loaded, ı hit a two-run single to take the lead. The other runs later scored on an RBI double by Kelvin Gutiérrez and a two-run double by Nottingham to make it 11-6.

The series finale is set at Truist Field tomorrow. It will feature RHP Grayson Rodriguez (3-1, 2.65) for the Tides, while Charlotte will throw RHP Davis Martin (2-0, 1.50). First pitch is at 1:05 p.m.

POSTGAME NOTES

NEUS-BOMB: The three-run jack by Robert Neustrom in the third inning was his seventh of the season...he has now separated himself as the team home run leader over Kyle Stowers...after going 1-for-5 with a home run and three RBI tonight, Neustrom extended his hitting streak to four games, where he’s 4-for-18 with a double, two home runs and eight RBI.

TIDES DIG THE LONG BALL: After hitting just seven home runs from April 27 to May 14, a span of 16 games, the Tides have launched 13 home runs in their last six, including nine in the first five games of this series...the six-game home run streak matchsets a season-long for the Tides, where they beat their previous streak of five from April 21 - 26.

IT’S GOOD TO BE RICH: With a single in the sixth inning, Richie Martin extended his hitting streak to 11 games...it’s tied with Charlotte’s Mark Payton for the longest active streak in the International League...it’s the longest hit streak by a Norfolk Tide this season, passing Robert Neustrom (10 games, April 24 - May 5)...since Martin’s streak started on May 3, he’s hitting .364(16-for-44) with four doubles, two triples, and two RBI.

THE JACOBIN REVOLUTION: The great series for Jacob Nottingham continued tonight going 3-for-3 with a two-run double, a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth, two walks and a stolen base...he’s recorded a hit in each of the five games at Charlotte, going 7-for-15 with five runs, three home runs, eight RBI and seven walks.
