Shutout Lifts Tides Over Knights
The Norfolk Tides shutout the Charlotte Knights, 7-0, Friday night. It was the sixth time Tides pitching has shutout an opponent this season and the third time on the road. It was the first time they’ve done so since shutting out the Knights, 4-0, at Harbor Park on September 3.

In the top of the second inning, J.C. Escarra and Mason McCoy singled and walked respectively. They both scored when Brett Cumberland laced a groundball down the right field line. They scored another run in the third inning when they loaded the bases and Escarra hit a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0, Norfolk.

Tides starter Kyle Bradish earned the win after throwing 5.0 scoreless innings. He struck out five batters while allowing two hits and two walks. It was his fifth win with the Norfolk Tides and the sixth overall this season. Cody Sedlock ended up finishing the shutout with 4.0 scoreless innings of relief, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out four. It was his first save this season.
Zach Jarrett added to Norfolk’s lead when he hit his 10th home run of the season with the Tides. It marked the 17th straight game with a home run as a team, which extended the franchise record as an Orioles affiliate and the season-high for any team in the Triple-A East.

Norfolk added their final runs of the game in the top of the eighth and ninth innings. With runners on first and second in the eighth, Escarra laid down a sacrifice bunt. Charlotte ended up throwing the ball into the outfield, letting both runners on base score. In the ninth, Kyle Stowers hit an RBI single to score the final run of the game, with the Tides winning, 7-0.
The Tides took the 2-1 series lead on Charlotte and play game four on Saturday at 5:05 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but Garth Brooks cancelled his tour which was scheduled to play in Charlotte that night. RHP Dean Kremer (1-5, 5.37) will start for Norfolk while LHP John Parke (2-3, 4.09) will throw for Charlotte.
