Tides left fielder Willy Yahn hit a two-run double in his first Triple-A game and starting pitcher Kyle Bradish earned the win after tossing five strong innings, helping Norfolk (8-15) end its first homestand of 2021 with a 4-1 victory over the Charlotte Knights on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park.

The Tides batted around in the bottom of the second, scoring a total of four runs. Back-to-back one-out walks from Taylor Davis and Ryan Ripken put runners on first and second for Yahn, who ripped the first pitch he saw for a two-run double. The next hitter, Mason McCoy, launched a home run into left field to give Norfolk a 4-0 lead.

Charlotte scratched their lone run across in the top of the third on three hits, culminating in an RBI single from right fielder Gavin Sheets. Bradish (W, 5.0 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 5 K), Tom Eshelman (H, 3.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, HBP, 2 K) and Fernando Abad (SV, 1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, K) combined to shut the Knights down the rest of the way.

Bradish, making his second Triple-A start following his promotion from Double-A Bowie, notched his first win at the highest level of the minor leagues. He had made three starts with the Baysox earlier in the year, throwing a total of 13.2 scoreless innings and striking out 26 hitters -- exactly half of all batters he faced. He entered 2021 ranked as Baltimore’s No. 14 prospect according to MLB.com.

Yahn became the third Tides position player this year to have an impressive first game at Harbor Park. On May 20, infielder Wilbis Santiago recorded two hits, including an RBI triple, in his Triple-A debut, while outfielder Zach Jarrett’s debut the following day saw him go 2-for-3 with a double.

Sunday marked the first time this season that the Tides had won after scoring first. All seven of the team’s prior victories came in come-from-behind fashion.

The Tides finished their rain-shortened 11-game homestand with a record of 5-6, including four wins in five games against Charlotte (8-15). Norfolk will begin a 12-game road trip on Tuesday with six games against the Durham Bulls, then six games in Jacksonville before returning to Harbor Park to face Durham again on June 15.
