NWL's best to swing away for charity before All-Star Game

EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox will host the Northwest League All-Star Home Run Derby, presented by Safeco Insurance, prior to the NWL All-Star Game on this coming Tuesday, Aug. 6. The Derby will feature nine of the best power hitters in the league.

Each hitter will represent one of the Derby's nine presenting Safeco agencies. Each agency's charity of choice will receive a donation based on their assigned hitter's performance. The pairings of hitters, agencies and charities are as follows:

The derby has two rounds, with the top three mashers from the opening round advancing to the final. The winner earns $2500 for his sponsor's charity and pockets a $500 bonus. The other hitters in the competition will earn between $100 and $1000 for their charity.

The All-Star festivities include the All-Star Luncheon, All-Star Fan Fest, Home Run Derby and the league's first All-Star Game since 2004. This annual event will rotate between the Northwest League teams, and will not be back in Everett for eight years.
