(Norwich, CT) -- The Norwich Sea Unicorns scored seven runs in the seventh to complete a seven-inning 10-run mercy rule victory over the Westfield Starfires Saturday night at Dodd Stadium.

Tremayne Cobb (Huntington, MD/University of Hartford) hit his team-best fourth home run deep over the left-field wall leading off the second to give the Sea Unicorns an early 1-0 lead. Hunter Yaworksi (Brooklyn, CT/Mitchell College) also went deep in the third to put the Sea Unicorns ahead 3-2 on a solo shot a half-inning after making a terrific diving catch in left to save a run.

Kaelen Culpepper (Memphis, TN/Kansas State University) and Andy Martin (Miramar, FL/Elite Squad Academy) both had three hits to lead a 15-hit attack for the Sea Unicorns. Culpepper finished with one run and three RBI’s, while Martin scored twice and drove-in the game-ending run with an RBI single to left to clinch the 10-run win. Anthony Porrino (Locust Valley, NY) went 2-3 with two runs and two RBI’s.

Martin’s sac-fly in the fourth scored Matt Malcom (East Lyme, CT/Eastern Connecticut State University) making it 4-2 Norwich, but the Starfires tied it 4-4 with two in the sixth.

The Sea Unicorns took the lead for good in the sixth on a two-run single by Ian Battipaglia (Chesire, CT/Franklin Pierce University) to reclaim the lead.Culpepper added a sac-fly to give the Sea Unicorns a 7-4 cushion. The Sea Unicorns then exploded for the seven-run seventh on a run-scoring wild pitch, RBI singles by Porrino and Culpepper, a bases-loaded walk by Bryan Loriga (Hialeah, FL/Elite Squad Academy), a two-run single to center by Yaworski, and Martin’s game-ending RBI single to left.

Jimmy Wang (Beijing, CN/UConn) started the game on the hill for Norwich going three innings and giving up two runs on two hits with one strikeout. Tommy Hughes (Newington, CT/Southern Connecticut State University) and Spencer Fox (Manchester, CT/Southern Connecticut State University) combined for four innings of relief, giving up a run each.Fox earned the win, closing the game with two innings and three strikeouts.

The Sea Unicorns are back in action when they host the Worcester Bravehearts Sunday, July 11 at 4:00 pm at Dodd Stadium. Every Sunday, kids run the bases after the game and receive a voucher for a free ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.
