(Norwich, CT) -- The Norwich Sea Unicorns defeated the New Britain Bees 3-2 in an in-state Future’s League matchup.

Korey Morton (Norwalk, CT/University of Connecticut) got things rolling early for the Sea Unicorns, blasting a three-run homerun over the left-field wall that scored Anthony Porrino (Locust Valley, NY) and Ian Battipaglia (Chesire, CT/Franklin Pierce University) giving the Sea Unicorns a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

Payton Sutman (Waterford, CT/College of Holy Cross) went six strong innings in the start to earn the win, allowing two runs (one earned), three hits, walking just one batter, while fanning three Bees batters. Gary Costello (Chesire, CT/University of New Haven) came in to relieve Sutman after an hour-and-ten minute weather delay, allowing one hit in three scoreless innings and striking out five to notch the save

The Bees cut the deficit to one with a two-run top of the sixth.Sammy Smith (Newtown, CT/Middlebury College) scored on a wild pitch cutting the Sea Unicorns lead to 3-1. Alec Ritch (Kentfield, CA/Middlebury College) scored on a sacrifice-fly from Michael Hernandez (Bridgeport, CT/Sacred Heart University) making it a 3-2 lead for Norwich.

The Sea Unicorns are on the road Wednesday 7/28 taking on the Brockton Rox for a double-header starting at 2:00 pm. The Sea Unicorns return home Thursday 7/29 as the Brockton Rox make the trip to Dodd Stadium for a 7:00 pm start. Thursday night's game (7/29) is a “Thirsty Thursday” with $2 Sam Adams and $1 Bud and Bud Light drafts.
