Back-to-Back Jacks Help Rodriguez and Nuts to 4-3 Win

September 4, 2016

Rancho Cucamonga, CA. - Emerson Jimenez went 4-for-4 to make Helmis Rodriguez's gem sparkle in the Modesto Nuts' 4-3 victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Sunday afternoon at LoanMart Field.

Rodriguez (W, 5-8) worked 7.1 innings to cap a strong finished to his season. The Nuts' (33-36; 59-80) lefty posted a 1.53 ERA in his final four starts of the year. Rodriguez surrendered a double and a RBI single in the second but only two hits after that until the eighth.

After the Nuts had taken the lead in the seventh, the Quakes (38-31; 80-59) threatened in the eighth. Rodriguez had an error committed behind him to start the inning before Micahel Ahmed singled to put two on. Big-League rehabber Andre Ethier was up next and Rodriguez retired him for the fourth time in the ballgame, his final out before being pulled.

Marc Magliaro followed out of the Nuts' bullpen and gave up a two-run single before stranding the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.

With the game tied at one entering the seventh, Yonathon Daza hustled out a double to start the inning. He moved to third with two outs before Emerson Jimenez roped a two-run shot to right to give the Nuts the lead. It was his first home run of the season. Wes Rogers followed with his fifth home run of the year to go back-to-back for the first time this year.
