French Crowned in 7-3 Win

French clinches the California League's ERA title in 7-3 victory

Rancho Cucamonga, CA. - Parker French clinched the California League's ERA title as the Modesto Nuts defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 7-3 on Saturday night.

French (W, 8-9) worked five shutout frames for the Nuts (32-36; 58-80) to lower his ERA to 2.85. He surrendered just one single while striking out five and walking none.

Clayton Kershaw made a rehab appearance with the Quakes (37-31; 79-59) on his way back to the Dodgers. He fired three innings and struck out five allowing just a ten-foot, infield single to Robbie Perkins who finished 3-for-4 with a run scored.

The Nuts did their damage against the second big league rehabber of the night, Brett Anderson (L, 0-3). Anderson was scheduled to work five frames but made it through just two. The Nuts beat him up for six runs on nine hits.

Forrest Wall and Josh Fuentes got the scoring started with back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth. In the fifth, the Nuts put up four more runs. Wes Rogers roped a RBI double. Fuentes smashed a RBI triple. He finished 3-for-5 with a ninth-inning home run to extend his hitting streak to eleven games. He has driven in nine runs in the last three contests. Shane Hoelscher capped the fifth with a RBI single.
