Herrera's Three Hits Not Enough in 8-4 Loss

Modesto, CA. - The Nuts were overwhelmed by 15 hits in an 8-4 loss to the Giants on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.

Rosell Herrera clubbed a solo home run in the first inning. In the second, he knocked in a run with a single to give the Nuts (10-29; 33-76) their last lead of the night against the Giants (23-16; 57-52). Herrera finished the night reaching in all five plate appearances with three hits and two walks.

Against Ben Alsup (L, 2-11), Blake Miller tied the game with a fifth-inning RBI single. Mitch Delfino followed with a two-run double to give the Giants the lead for good. Alsup finished after six innings, nine hits, six runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

The Giants continued to tack on by scoring a run thanks to Shawn Payne's RBI triple in the sixth. Brain Ragira added a RBI single in the seventh and Payne added another RBI on a single in the ninth.

Ian Gardeck (W, 1-1) tossed 2.2 hitless innings out of the bullpen. Stephan Johnson (S, 1) pitched around a two-out single and struck out a pair in the ninth.

The Nuts head on the road next to open a four-game series against the Visalia Rawhide. Righty Matt Flemer will toss for the Nuts. Blayne Weller will throw for the Rawhide on Thursday.
