Late Pop Downs Nuts in 2-1 Loss

July 29, 2014

Modesto, CA. - Devin Burke's gem was scuffed by a late home run in the Nuts' 2-1 loss to the Giants on Monday night at John Thurman Field.

With the Nuts (10-27; 33-74) up by a run, Chuckie Jones clubbed a two-out, eighth-inning, go-ahead, two-run homer off Devin Burke (L, 5-9) to put the Giants (21-16; 55-52) in front for good.

Burke had been terrific, finishing after 7.2 innings, allowing six hits and just the two runs while striking out five and walking none. Burke allowed just three runs to reach second base in his 17th start for the Nuts.

Joe Biagini (W, 7-7) was tremendous as well for the Giants. The lone run he allowed came after a double by Pat Valaika before Juan Ciriaco's RBI single. Biagini tossed 7.1 innings while striking out five, walking none and allowing seven hits.

Bryce Bandilla (S, 4) allowed two runners to reach, but struck out Derek Jones to end the game.

The Nuts and Giants play the middle affair of a three-game series on Tuesday night with lefty Jayson Aquino on the mound for the Nuts. Righty Pat Young will throw for the Giants.
