Late Pop Falls Short in 6-5 Loss

August 1, 2014

Visalia, CA. - Blayne Weller fooled the Nuts' bats on Thursday night to send the Nuts to a 6-5 loss against the Rawhide at Recreation Park.

Alex San Juan clubbed a three-run homer for the Nuts (10-29, 33-76) in the ninth inning, but the comeback attempt came just short when David Dahl drilled a fly ball to center that was brought in on a leap at the wall by centerfielder Breland Almadova.

Blayne Weller (W, 2-0) tossed eight innings for the Rawhide (21-18, 57-52) and struck out six batters with just one walk, allowing only two runs.

Rudy Flores provided the pop for the Rawhide by smoking two home runs against Nuts' starter Matt Flemer (L, 9-8). Flemer worked six innings and allowed six runs while striking out four and allowing nine hits.

The Nuts will try to snap a five-game skid in the second game of the four-game series against the Rawhide on Friday night. Righty Tyler Gagnon will start for the Nuts. Righty Brandon SInnery will toss for the Rawhide. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. To listen on your iPhone or iPad listen live here.
