FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Following an 11-1 win over the Inland Empire 66ers on Saturday night the Modesto Nuts (Advanced-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners), clinched a First Half North Division title for the first time since 2004, their final year as the Modesto A's.
It's been three years since the Nuts last made the playoffs in 2013. At the time, the Nuts had reached the playoffs in seven consecutive years. The Nuts became the Nuts in 2005 when the A's left for Stockton and the Rockies came to town. In eight of the first nine years as a Rockies affiliate, the Nuts reached the playoffs, three times as the second half champ and five times as the wild card winner. Only once, in 2012, did they reach the Championship Series, falling in three games to the JetHawks.
The last day of the regular season is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 4. Tuesday, Sept. 5 is a scheduled off day, which will be used to schedule tie breaker games, if necessary. Four teams make the playoffs - the first half winner of each division, and the second half winner of each division. If the same team wins both halves, the team with the second best overall record in the division receives the other playoff berth. Each division will feature a Best-of-5 Division Series, followed by the Best-of-5 League Championship Series.
