Nuts Drop 3-2 Decision

July 30, 2014

Modesto, CA. - For the second straight night the Nuts' offense was quiet as they fell 3-2 against the Giants on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.

For the second consecutive evening, both starters worked at least seven innings. Jayson Aquino (L, 3-9) tossed seven innings and allowed just three runs for the Nuts (10-28; 33-75). In the third, after three walks, Brandon Bednar delivered an infield RBI single to put the Giants (22-16; 56-52) on the board. Blake Miller followed with a sac fly. In the fourth, Shawn Payne smacked a two-out RBI single.

That was all Giants' starter Pat Young (W, 9-3) needed as he worked seven innings and allowed just one run when Pat Valaika ripped a RBI single in the sixth.

Bryce Bandilla (S, 5) recorded a perfect ninth to end the ballgame.

The Nuts will need a win on Wednesday night to avoid the sweep in the finale of the three-game series against the Giants. Righty Ben Alsup is on the mound for the Nuts. Righty Martin Agosta will toe the rubber for the Giants. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m. To listen on your iPhone or iPad listen live here.
