San Jose, CA. - One strike away from a win, the Modesto Nuts suffered a 4-3, 13-inning loss to the San Jose Giants on Wednesday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.
Holding a one-run lead in the ninth, Matt Festa recorded the first two outs quickly. Ryan Howard doubled to start the Giants' (44-59; 14-19) game-tying rally. Bryan Reynolds followed and flared a light RBI single into center to tie the game.
Festa threw well after that and Matt Walker (L, 4-3) worked a perfect 12th but Gio Brusa doubled to start the 13th. After recording the next two outs, Jalen Miller softly served the walk-off RBI single into center.
Connor Kaden (W, 4-0) worked a perfect 13th against the Nuts (57-46; 18-15).
There wasn't much offense for the Nuts to back Nathan Bannisters five-inning, one-run start. Kyle Lewis recorded a RBI single in the first and three errors led to two unearned runs in the second. That was all the Nuts would get in the loss to drop the three-game series. From the sixth through the 12th innings, the Giants staff sent 19 hitters down in order.
The Nuts return home for a four-game series with the Ports starting on Thursday evening at 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 6:55 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC by CLICKING HERE.
