Strong Pitching Holds Lead in 3-2 Win

Modesto, CA. - Early strikes by the Modesto Nuts' offense were enough in a 3-2 win over the Stockton Ports on Thursday afternoon at John Thurman Field to earn a four-game series split.

In the first, Gianfranco Wawoe delivered a two-out RBI single for the Nuts (8-6) against Ports' (8-6) starter Casey Meisner (L, 1-3).

In the third, the Nuts added some insurance runs that proved to be big. Logan Taylor lifted a sac fly to score Braden Bishop. Bishop went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Joey Curletta added a RBI double.

From there the Nuts' offense was quiet, but their pitching staff was sharp. Reggie McClain (W, 3-0) worked 5.2 innings with four hits and three strikeouts. The lone runs were scored with wo outs in the fourth when Tyler Ramirez whacked a two-run single.

The bullpen was great combining to toss 3 1/3 innings without allowing a hit. Spencer Herrmann tossed 1.1 with one walk and one strikeout. Matt Walker (S, 1/2) fired the final two innings and had to work around just a one-out walk in the ninth.
