Ten Unanswered Runs Give Nuts 12-7 Win

Modesto, CA. -Chris Mariscal lead the Modesto Nuts' offensive barrage in a 12-7 win over the Lancaster JetHawks on Thursday evening at John Thurman Field.
Mariscal capped the Nuts' (23-18) ten unanswered runs when he launched a three-run homer off the left field scoreboard in the third inning off JetHawks' (22-19) starter Trey Killian (L, 5-1).
After the JetHawks plated four runs in the first, the Nuts came right back and tied the game with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first thanks to three doubles. Logan Taylor had the first of his two RBI doubles. Jordan Cowan added a two-run double before Arturo Neito capped the frame with another RBI double. In the second, the Nuts added another three with the help of Joey Curletta's two-run double.
Nick Neidert (W, 4-0) settled down after giving up four runs on four hits in the first, he allowed just three more singles and no more runs the rest of the way. Neidert finished after five innings allowing the four first-inning runs with three strikeouts and one walk.
As the late afternoon turned to early evening, the JetHawks cut the Nuts' lead in half and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the top of the eighth. Bryan Bonnell (S, 2/2) checked into the game and recorded the final out with one pitch before closing out the ninth working around a two-out single.
