New Orleans Nabs Series Opener, 5-1

Oklahoma City - The New Orleans Baby Cakes scored five runs as part of a wild fourth inning on the way to a 5-1 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The teams opened a five-game series Monday and Oklahoma City's loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Dodgers, while also handing them their 11th loss in the last 12 games at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Dodgers (49-41) took the game's first lead in the first inning - the sixth straight game in which Oklahoma City scored first against their opponent.
Donovan Solano hit a one-out single. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch and scored when Kyle Farmer followed with a RBI single for a 1-0 advantage, but that would be the lone run the Dodgers scored on the night.
The Baby Cakes (45-49) scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-1 lead, as the Dodgers were charged with three errors in the frame.
Rafael Ortega hit into a fielder's choice and a throwing error by catcher Farmer allowed New Orleans' first run of the night to score to tie the game, 1-1.
Tomás Telis followed with a two-run triple and then scored on a throwing error by Dodgers second baseman Jake Peter for a 4-1 New Orleans lead.
Cristhian Adames came up to bat next and hit a single. He stole second base, then advanced to third base on Farmer's second throwing error of the inning. Peter Mooney's sacrifice fly later in the inning boosted the Baby Cakes to a 5-1 lead.
New Orleans had a chance to further pad its lead in the ninth inning, loading the bases with one out for pinch-hitter Jonathan Rodriguez, who Dodgers reliever Andrew Istler struck out. Istler then got Austin Dean, who worked an 11-pitch at-bat, to ground out to end the inning.
Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart threw 6.1 innings, allowing five runs (three earned) and five hits over 6.1 innings. He was charged with the loss, allowing two walks and four strikeouts.
Istler then held the Baby Cakes scoreless over 2.2 frames, allowing one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.
Baby Cakes starting pitcher Zac Gallen (5-5) picked up the win, holding the Dodgers to one run and three hits over 6.0 innings with four walks and seven strikeouts.
The Dodgers and Baby Cakes continue their series with a doubleheader at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The doubleheader of two seven-inning games is to make up a game that was rained out at New Orleans July 2 and the Baby Cakes will play as the home team in Game 1. Game 2 will start approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.
