RedHawks Broadcast Wins State Award

Presented 2013 "Best Play-By-Play" by OAB
February 11, 2014

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City RedHawks and radio partner KGHM-AM 1340 "The Game" have won the 2013 award for "Best Play-By-Play" by the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters, the association recently announced.

The Outstanding Achievement in Broadcasting Awards Program is an annual competition sponsored by the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters (OAB). "The competition encourages the highest standards of reporting, programming, and promotion. It is designed to stimulate a desire for excellence among Oklahoma broadcasters in serving their public," according to the OAB website. Awards are given in television, as well as metro and non-metro radio divisions.

The OAB selected the July 23, 2013 broadcast of a RedHawks game against the Omaha Storm Chasers at Werner Park in Papillion, Neb., as the winning entry. "Voice of the RedHawks" Alex Freedman provided the play-by-play, and Steve Rosen was the in-studio producer and engineer.

"I'd like to thank everyone that made this possible," Freedman said. "We are very lucky to have the partnership that we do with Clear Channel Media & Entertainment, and we pride ourselves on putting together a quality broadcast every single night. I'm happy we received this recognition."

All 144 RedHawks games will once again be broadcast on KGHM-AM, 1340thegame.com, and through the IHeartRadio mobile app in 2014. Broadcasts begin 30 minutes prior to first pitch with "RedHawks on Deck" and conclude with "The RedHawks Post-Game Report." Freedman enters his third season as Manager of Media Relations and Broadcasting for the RedHawks. In addition to being the club's exclusive play-by-play voice, he handles all on-site technical aspects of the broadcast as well.

"One of the best sounds of summer is a great baseball play-by-play broadcast," RedHawks President/General Manager Michael Byrnes said. "Alex and our broadcast partner Clear Channel Media & Entertainment form the right partnership in delivering great broadcasts throughout the season."

Awards will be presented at the annual Outstanding Achievement Awards Banquet Friday, March 28 at the Skirvin Hotel in Oklahoma City. A complete list of winners can be found on the OAB website, www.oabok.org.

The RedHawks open the 2014 season Thursday, April 3 at Round Rock, and the team's home schedule begins at 7:05 p.m. Friday, April 11 against New Orleans at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
