The Omaha Storm Chasers have announced in conjunction with Omaha Creative Institute the winner of the Storm Chasers' 50th Season Celebration Mural. University of Nebraska Omaha alum and Omaha native Hugo Zamorano has been commissioned to install the mural, which will be located on the Storm Chasers' exterior office wall facing the primary parking area at Werner Park.

Work is scheduled to begin on the mural on April 5, with the finished work planned for a June 7 unveiling at the Storm Chasers' first "Copa de la Diversion" date of the season. Fans attending Storm Chasers contests at Werner Park will be able to view the progress of the 50th Season Celebration Mural up to and after its completion. A $10,000 grant for the project has been provided by Omaha Creative Institute.

Zamorano has received several awards for his work, including "Best Emerging Artist for 2016" at the 2017 Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards. He was also a contributor for the "Best Public Mural" at the 2017 Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards for his work 'Del Futuro Al Pasado'. His work is being showcased along with other winners and nominees at Gallery 72 in Omaha. He graduated from UNO in December 2015 with a B.F.A. in Painting.

Applications for the project were accepted, with any artist, collaborative duo or artist collective maintaining a residence within the Omaha Metro Area eligible to apply. A panel of local arts professionals, community leaders and Omaha Storm Chasers staff members reviewed applications and selected the winner.

Following the Royals Exhibition Game presented by SAC Federal Credit Union on March 26, the Storm Chasers begin 2018 regular season Pacific Coast League play at Werner Park on Thursday, April 5 versus the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
