Omaha designated hitter Jorge Bonifacio mashed his nineteenth home run, with catcher Nick Dini and left fielder Elier Hernandez adding longballs as well, while Reno third baseman Ildemaro Vargas collected four hits and drove in four runs in the Aces' 13-7 win over the Storm Chasers on Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field in Reno, Nevada.
Hernandez and Heath mashed back-to-back jacks as part of a five-run fourth frame that evened the contest at 5-5 after Reno jumped out to an early advantage. The Aces, howevever, would strike back with a trio of tallies in each of the fourth and fifth frames, which would include RBI singles from Vargas in both of those innings. Bonifacio would later go deep with a solo blast in the ninth.
Reno SS Joshua Rojas (3-4, 3 R, 2B, RBI, 2 BB), CF Ben DeLuzio (3-4, 4 R, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI), 2B Andy Young (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and RF Jamie Westbrook (2-4, R, BB) each posted multi-hit efforts in addition to Vargas' (4-6, 2 R, 2B, 4 RBI) four knocks. Bonifacio (3-5, 3 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI) posted a team-high three hits, with Dini and Hernandez adding two knocks apiece. Omaha CF Nick Heath (1-2, 3B, 3 BB, SB) reached base four times and stole his first Triple-A base, giving him 51 thefts combined between the Storm Chasers and Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Aces reliever Lucas Luetge (2.1 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K) earned the victory with 2.1 shutout frames in support of starter Riley Smith (3.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 2 K). Omaha southpaw Jake Kalish (3.1 IP, 10 H, 8 R, 7 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to square off again in the third tilt of their four-game set on Sunday afternoon in Reno. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05pm CT.
The Storm Chasers return home to Werner Park on Wednesday, August 7 to start a seven-game homestand. First pitch of the series opener versus the Salt Lake Bees is set for 7:05pm CT.
