SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Despite tying a modern franchise record with eight stolen bases but fell in dramatic fashion to the Syracuse Mets. The last time Omaha swiped eight bags was on July 1 at St. Paul, a game the Chasers also lost.

The Omaha Storm Chasers (47-46) dropped game three via a walk-off homer to the Syracuse Mets (43-53) 5-3. The Chasers lead the series 2-1.

Center fielder Drew Waters drew his third walk over the last two games to put the leadoff man on base to start the game. Waters stole second before designated hitter Salvador Perez drew a walk and Waters moved to third on another stolen base to put runners at the corners with nobody out.

Second Baseman Michal Massey hit into a double play, but Waters was able to score on the play, giving the Chasers an early 1-0 lead.

Syracuse answered in the bottom of the frame, using a rally and a wild pitch to take the lead from Omaha 2-1.

Left fielder Brewer Hicklen hit an infield single that stayed in no-mans land between the pitcher and catcher. Shortstop Clay Dungan drew a four-pitch walk to put a pair of runners on with nobody out for the second time in as many innings. A double play and a strikeout would end Omaha’s chances and leave the score at 2-1.

After a rocky first, left-hander Austin Cox settled down and sat down six Mets in a row, to end the second and complete the third.

Right fielder Nate Eaton hit a bloop single with one away in the fourth before stealing second. Hicklen drew a walk before catcher Freddy Fermin hit a single into center field that scored Eaton and knotted the score 2-2.

A sacrifice fly scored another Mets run, giving the lead back to Syracuse 3-2 in the fourth.

In the top of the fifth Dairon Blanco replaced Perez as the designated hitter, hitting a single before stealing his 23rd and 24th bases of the season. Blanco entered the game with the fifth most stolen bases in the International League, moving up the leaderboard with a pair of steals tonight. A strikeout would strand Blanco 90 feet from home and leave the deficit at one.

Cox would go 4.0 innings, throwing 79 pitches and allowing four walks with two strikeouts.

Massey started the eighth with a double before Eaton came through with a single up the middle to score Massey and knot the score at 3-3.

Left-hander Sam Freeman came in to finish the eighth, keeping the score tied heading into the ninth inning.

Dungan walked to start the inning before stealing second, giving Omaha eight stolen bases in the game, tying a modern franchise record set on July 1. First baseman Gabriel Cancel was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one away in the ninth. A pair of strikeouts would end Omaha’s scoring chance with the score tied 3-3.

Syracuse hit a triple off the center field wall to start the ninth before ending the game with a two-run homer.

The Storm Chasers and S-Mets will continue their series Friday in game four with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m. CDT. Coverage starts at 5:15 p.m. on the Sarpy County Tourism Pregame Show on 1180 The Zone. Omaha looks to send right-hander Jonathan Heasley (1-1, 4.25) to the mound while Syracuse plans to start Nate Fisher.

The Storm Chasers will return home for a six-game set against St. Paul the first week of August. Thursday, August 4 is Military Appreciation night presented by RTG Medical with special events scheduled to show our appreciation for the military.
