The Orem Owlz held the Idaho Falls Chukars to just four hits in a 3-1 victory at the Home of the Owlz on Tuesday night for their twelfth win of the season vs. the Chukars.
Owlz starter Simon Mathews dominated in allowing just one run in his five innings of work, with James Ziemba picking up the win and Daniel Procopio earning the save.
While Mathews picked up a no decision with his second straight brilliant outing, James Ziemba tied for the team lead by earning his fifth win of the season.
Ziemba moved on to 5-0 for Orem, winning his third straight start.
Procopio then blanked the Chukars for the final two innings, allowing three baserunners while striking out a career-high five batters and picking up his third save of the season.
The lone run given up by the Owlz came with two outs in the fifth inning, when Idaho Falls' Logan Gray hit a solo home run off of Simon Mathews to give the Chukars a 1-0 lead.
The Owlz then proceeded to score one run in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
David Mackinnon got the Owlz on the scoreboard with an RBI double to bring home Brandon Marsh with the tying run in a 1-1 game.
Torii Hunter Jr. then came up with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, delivering a base hit into left field that scored Jeyson Sanchez with the go-ahead run in giving Orem a 2-1 lead.
David Mackinnon then picked up a team-high second run batted in on sacrifice fly that brought home Brandon Marsh in the seventh to extend the Owlz' lead to 3-1.
Mathews, Ziemba and Procopio combined to allowed just four hits on the night, as the Owlz picked up their league-best 47th win of the season.
The Owlz also advanced to 21-13 in the second half, tying the Ogden Raptors for first place in the second half standings.
Orem and Idaho Falls will return to the Home of the Owlz on Wednesday night for the second of their three-game set against each other, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. MT.
