The Orem Owlz picked up their fourth walk-off win of the season on Monday night with Stephen Kerr delivering a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning of a 2-1 win.
The 2-1 score marks the third straight game for Orem's pitching staff having given up exactly one run, as the Owlz have now won three straight games.
The Owlz' first spurt of offense came in the second inning, when Manuel Guzman led off the inning with a solo home run--his second of the year to give Orem a 1-0 lead.
The game then went stagnant for the next five innings, as the Owlz' starter Simon Mathews was magnificent through five shutout innings in his first start of the year.
He was replaced by left-hander James Ziemba, who gave up the only run in the game for Orem.
Helena's Gabriel Garcia took Ziemba deep over the left field fence in the seventh inning to tie the game at a score of 1-1.
After Ziemba mowed through the bottom of the order, while piling up four strikeouts, he then passed the ball off to Daniel Procopio.
Procopio finished out the game for Orem by throwing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, qualifying himself for the first win of his Minor League career.
Franklin Torres led off the bottom of the ninth inning for Orem by drawing a leadoff, four-pitch walk, setting the wheels in motion for the Owlz' fourth walk-off win of the season.
After Torres moved to second base on a wild pitch by Rodrigo Benoit, Angel Molina successfully accomplished a sacrifice bunt to move Torres over to third base.
Then, in his fifth game as a member of the Owlz, Stephen Kerr lined a 1-1 pitch into right field to break the 1-1 tie game and vault the Owlz to their third win in a row.
The win puts the Owlz a season-high 20 games above .500 with a Pioneer League-best record of 32-12-1. The win also expands the Owlz lead atop the Pioneer League South standings to two games over the Ogden Raptors, with a record of 6-1 in the second half.
The Owlz will return to their home ballpark tomorrow night, set to play their second game vs. the Helena Brewers with first pitch coming at 7:05 MT at the Home of the Owlz.
Coverage begins on the Orem Owlz Baseball Network with the Voice of the Owlz, Steven Cusumano, 15 minutes prior to first pitch.
