Woodbridge, VA---The Potomac Nationals are excited to announce plans for A League of Their Own 25th Anniversary Night on Flashback Friday, June 23rd at Pfitzner Stadium.
The P-Nats will face the Carolina Mudcats (Milwaukee Brewers) at 7:05pm that evening, and the club will celebrate this hallmark anniversary of a classic baseball movie and welcome former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player, Virginia Ventura (Manina) to The Pfitz.

Ventura (Manina) will be on hand to throw out a ceremonial first pitch, meet and greet P-Nats fans, and sign autographs on the Pfitzner Stadium concourse.
Ventura (Marina) played two seasons for the Rockford Peaches as a first baseman in 1951 and 1953. Nicknamed "Jean," Ventura grew up in Garfield, NJ, and began playing baseball professionally when she was just 16 years old.
P-Nats fans are encouraged to grab their gloves, do a split (if they know how), and flock to the diamond at The Pfitz to enjoy a night of flashback fun for boys, girls, ladies, and gentleman of all ages!
Any fans who have the moniker "Hinson," "Kit," "Dugan," or "Marla," as any part of their full legal name will receive a $5 grandstand ticket with proof of ID at the Extreme Custom Collision Ticket Office.
As soon as gates open at 6:00pm, fans will travel back to 1943 with the inauguration of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). With World War II threatening to shut down Major League Baseball, several baseball executives pooled together their resources and began a pro baseball league for women in the spirit of marching our nation's pastime onward.
In the film, candy magnate and Chicago Cubs Owner, Walter Harvey, imitating real-life Cubs patriarch and chewing gum manufacturer, Philip K. Wrigley, led the charge towards the creation of the new women's professional baseball league.
P-Nats fans will have the opportunity to search through their gameday souvenir program for a chance to find a coupon for a free Harvey bar! If fans find the golden coupon, they can redeem it for the delectable chocolate bar at the Fan Assistance Booth!
On the way through the gates of Pfitzner Stadium, each fan will receive a replica program from the first season of the AAGPBL. The standings from the first season and champions of each campaign will be noted and highlighted inside the program.
Fans need not be afraid of getting dirt in their skirts, and should maintain a "do or die" attitude towards having fun during A League of Their Own 25th Anniversary Night.
During the Nationals' special game presentation, the P-Nats' on-field emcee will display a replica Rockford Peaches full uniform complete with the hallmark game skirt that players in the AAGPBL wore during their playing days.
On-field, in-game promos will feature mostly ladies in attendance for the night of AAGPBL commemoration.
A "Marla Hooch Makeover Station" will be available on the ballpark concourse for beautification of fans who require that service during the game.
The P-Nats will test the limits on whether there is no crying in baseball. Fans will be able to participate in an onion eating contest during the game on top of the Home Dugout.
In addition, a Betty Spaghetti-sponsored spaghetti eating contest will take place.
There will also be a posture competition in which fans will have to balance books on their head just like the Rockford Peaches had to do when they took part in beauty school in the movie.
Meanwhile, on the outfield jumbo-tron video board, a highlight reel of famous MLB on-field criers and/or complainers will be displayed.
Also on the video board will be notable MLB players who also fought for our country in World War II in addition to a profile of MLB Hall of Famer, Jimmie Foxx, who managed for the Fort Wayne Daisies in 1952. Foxx was the model for Jimmy Dugan's character in A League of Their Own.
The Mudcats players' headshots will be stylized as members of the Racine Belles' roster.
Rumor has it there will be a re-enactment of the most famous scene in the film in which Jimmy Dugan chastises Evelyn Gardner.
Fans should keep their eyes peeled for various peach-themed promotions throughout the night. Peach flavored beverages will be available at the Main Concession Stand, while P-Nats staff members will throw out peaches to lucky fans.
The film's soundtrack throughout the night will pump through the speakers at The Pfitz. This track list will include classics such as "The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Song," performed by the Rockford Peaches, and "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," by The Manhattan Transfer plus Madonna's "This Used to Be My Playground."
After the game, kids will have the chance to run the bases, courtesy of Glory Days Grill.
The P-Nats hope the only crying in baseball comes from the tears of joy and laughter while fans take in a special night of baseball in Woodbridge.
So, P-Nats fans should make like a bread truck and haul buns to The Pfitz for A League of Their Own 25th Anniversary Night!
Before you leave, promise the cows you'll write…
