MiLB's 2012 Washington Nationals Organizational All-Stars Feature P-Nats Core

Potomac RHP Nathan Karns, SS Jason Martinson, 3B Matt Skole, and OF Steven Souza Jr. Named Nats' Best at Each Position by MiLB
January 2, 2013
Woodbridge, VA-Throughout the offseason following the 2012 campaign, Minor League Baseball has compiled a list recognizing the most outstanding Minors standouts at each position within every Major League organization.

The P-Nats are represented with RHP Nathan Karns, SS Jason Martinson, 3B Matt Skole, and OF Steven Souza Jr. on the Washington Nationals' organizational all-star roster selected by MiLB after turning in terrific 2012 seasons respectively. RHP Alex Meyer, who was traded to the Minnesota Twins for CF Denard Span in November, was labeled as an "honorable mention."

All five players began their seasons with the Class-A Hagerstown Suns and received mid-season promotions to the Carolina League.

Karns (2009, 12th Rd.), hampered by injuries in his previous three seasons, was named the Washington Nationals 2012 Minor League Pitcher of the Year after leading organizational arms with a 2.17 earned run average and 148 strikeouts to complement 11 wins.

Martinson (2010, 5th Rd.) swatted 22 longballs, good for fourth in the organization, and collected 106 runs batted in, which was the most for any Nationals farmhand.

Skole (2011, 5th Rd.) turned in a monster offensive season in 2012 which featured South Atlantic League Most Valuable Player honors and Washington's system Player of the Year award. Skole cranked the most home runs among Nationals Minor Leaguers (27) and ranked second in RBIs (104).

Souza Jr. (2007, 3rd Rd.) put together his best professional season to date in 2012. Souza Jr. owned a batting line of .297/.366/.572 in 97 games, while smacking 22 doubles, 23 HR, and 85 RBIs with both of Washington's Class-A affiliates.

Meyer (2011, 1st Rd., No. 23 overall) dominated both of his professional circuits by earning a 10-6 record and a sub-3.00 ERA (2.86) over 25 starts for Hagerstown and Class-A Advanced Potomac. Meyer is expected to make an impact for the Minnesota Twins starting rotation in the near future after Washington General Manager, Mike Rizzo orchestrated a swap for Span earlier this offseason.
