Woodbridge, VA --- The Potomac Nationals (2-1, 1-0) pounded the Salem Red Sox (1-3, 1-3) on Sunday evening with an 11-4 win. LF Randolph Oduber and CF Will Piwnica-Worms each scorched their second home runs of the season in the win.
The P-Nats used a six-run third inning to get ahead early. Piwnica-Worms led off the inning with a tater to left field. 3B Oscar Tejeda brought in C Cole Leonida with a fielder's choice groundout. 1B Shawn Pleffner and Oduber followed with a pair of RBI-Singles before DH Khayyan Norfork delivered two more with a double.
The first eighth Nationals runs came off Red Sox starter LHP Cody Kukuk (L, 1-5). Leonida and RF Estarlin Martinez scored runs seven and eight in the fourth inning on a Tejeda walk and Pleffner sac fly.
RHP John Simms (W, 2-4) tossed five innings allowing four runs while striking out four to earn his second win of the year. Relievers RHP Brian Rauh and RHP Richie Mirowski combined to allow just one hit over the final four innings.
For Salem, C Carson Blair and 3B Jantzen Witte each collected a pair of singles and a run in the first four innings but were held hitless afterwards. With the stellar bullpen outings from Potomac, Salem never amounted any sort of comeback effort.
Oduber added some unnecessary insurance with a solo shot in the seventh followed by a 2B Tony Renda two-RBI single.
