Salem Takes Game Two of Mills Cup Championship Series 4-0 on Augliera's Dominant Performance

Salem RHP Mike Augliera Dazzles by Tossing 6.2 Scoreless Innings to Earn Win

Woodbridge, VA-The Potomac Nationals (2-2) were downed in Game Two of the Mills Cup Championship Series by the Salem Red Sox (4-0) on Sunday night at Pfitzner Stadium in a 4-0 shutout. In the best-of-five series, the Red Sox take a commanding two game advantage on the dominant showing for winning pitcher, RHP Mike Augliera (1-0) as the series shifts back to Salem, VA for the remaining games.

This was the sixth time the Nationals failed to score a run in their 2013 Carolina League contests.

The Red Sox overcame three errors in the standoff and went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

The Nationals were hitless with runners in position to score going 0-for-5.  

Augliera sparkled for 6.2 innings in which he allowed six base hits and walked one while fanning seven batters.

The Nationals offense mustered only six singles off the sticks of 3B Cutter Dykstra, CF Michael Taylor, DH Kevin Keyes, and LF Randolph Oduber.

Nationals LHP Brett Mooneyham (0-1) gave Potomac a chance to win despite being hit with the losing decision. Mooneyham surrendered two earned runs on only one hit but walked four batters and struck out only three.

In the 2nd inning, Red Sox RF Matty Johnson worked a bases loaded RBI walk and a wild pitch from Mooneyham brought in 1B David Chester, who reached base on a fielder's choice chopper.

In the 5th frame off RHP Paul Demny, DH Sean Coyle laced an RBI triple into the gap in right center field which rolled to the wall.

Coyle added a run scoring single smacked through a drawn-in infield defense in the 7th inning to plate SS Nick Natoli, who garnered a leadoff walk.

Demny tossed 2.1 innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits. He walked one and struck out two men.

Potomac RHP Travis Henke and RHP Rob Wort combined for 2.2 scoreless innings to finish the game.

Salem RHP Madison Younginer (SV 1) dealt 2.1 scoreless innings without allowing a hit or walk. Younginer fanned a pair of batters to to earn the save.

The Nationals go after their fifth all-time Mills Cup Championship as the 2013 Carolina League Playoffs continue.

Game Three of the Mills Cup Championship Series will be played at LewisGale Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark Tuesday, September 10th with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Games Four (if necessary), and Five (if necessary) are scheduled to be played on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th following a travel day on Monday, September 9th.     

Potomac has not announced their starting pitcher for Game Three while the Salem Red Sox will cart out RHP William Cuevas (0-0, 0.00).
