In the opening game against the St. Lucie Mets, the Cardinals offensive woes cost them as they fell by a final score of 5-1.
Starter Perry DellaValle kept the Beach Birds in the game only allowing two earned runs in 6 ⅔ innings while striking out seven.
The opposition got on the board first in the third with a solo run. After a Manny Roriguez triple, Wagner Lagrange brought him home with an RBI single.
St. Lucie scored another single run in the fourth on an Edgardo Fermin RBI single.
After DellaValle was relieved by Zach Prendergast, Wagner Lagrange took the new pitcher yard hitting a solo home run and making it a 3-0 ballgame.
Palm Beach had a runner in scoring position with less than two outs three times and had a baserunner aboard in each of the first seven innings however were unable to generate a run.
It wasn't until the eighth inning that the Cardinals got on the scoreboard. Imeldo Diaz opened the frame with a double and was brought home two batters later by Nolan Gorman's RBI single. A double-play ground ball with the tying run at the plate ended any threat.
The Mets put on two more runs in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
At the plate, Nolan Gorman was the only Cardinal with a multi-hit game going 2-4. Nick Plummer went 1-1 and reached base via two walks.
The teams will play again on Tuesday from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium at 12 PM for Super Splash Day as the stadium turns into a water park for the day. Tickets and more info can be found at Rogerdeanchevroletstadium.com
