Although the Cardinals were only at bat for four full innings, Palm Beach put up 11 runs in an exciting Fourth of July spectacular against visiting Daytona.
It all started with a two run, bottom of the first inning. Dylan Carlson hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run of the game and the very next batter, Andy Young, hit an opposite field homer that just cleared the fence. It was his 10th of the season.
Palm Beach continued to add to the scoreboard scoring a season high seven runs in the second frame. Nine of the first 10 batters up to the plate in the inning reached base safely and once all was over, Daytona starter Tejay Antone was charged with nine earned runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched.
The Tortugas put its lone run on the board in the fourth and the Cardinals immediately followed with two more on a wild pitch that scored Carlson and an RBI single by José Godoy.
Stefan Trosclair and Chase Pinder both went 2-3 in the victory with a pair of RBI. Eight of the nine Palm Beach batters recorded an RBI and reached base safely at least once.
Cardinals' starter Jake Walsh went the distance, throwing five innings allowing just that one run and striking out five. Walsh has thrown at least five innings and has allowed less than two earned runs in each of his last six appearances. He is 4-0 in that span.
Palm Beach finishes its quick, two game series with Daytona on Thursday night at 6:30 PM EST.
