Reyes, Scruggs Named Minor League Players of the Month

JUPITER, Fla - The St. Louis Cardinals announced their Minor League Pitcher and Player of the Month for April by honoroing pitcher Alex Reyes and former Palm Beach first baseman, Xavier Scruggs for their accomplisments on the field. Scruggs, who now plays in Memphis (AAA), played in Palm Beach during the 2010-11 seasons.

Reyes, a 20-year-old from Elizabeth, NJ, signed with the Cardinals in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. He spent his rookie season in 2013 with Johnson City, and with Peoria in 2014 This season with Palm Beach, he made four starts in the month of April and earned a record of 1 - 1. He posted a 1.71 ERA over 20.1 innings, including 35 strikeouts, a Florida State League best. He struck out 10 batters in each of his first two starts and earned his first win of the season at Lakeland on April 15.

Scruggs, who played in Palm Beach during two seasons, has batted .274 with five home runs and 16 RBI in 17 games this April with Memphis. With Palm Beach, Scruggs played in 204 games, batting .264 with 34 home runs. He collected 116 RBI on 192 hits and scored 99 runs for the Beach Birds.
