Tice Walks It Off in Fashion in Extras

Flaherty Tosses Seven Scoreless in No Decision

Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (49-68, 17-32) won Sunday night's contest in the 11th inning on a Dylan Tice single, 4-3 over the Charlotte Stone Crabs (58-59, 25-23).

The Rundown

Jack Flaherty (3-8, 3.83 ERA) had his best outing of the season as he threw seven scoreless innings giving up five hits, walking none and striking out four. He controlled the strike zone most of the night as he threw only 81 pitches in the seven frames, 55 of which were strikes.

Casey Grayson and Thomas Spitz got things going for the Cardinals in the second with back-to-back singles to start the frame. Steve Bean got the Cardinals on the board early as he hit a one-out single to left after both runners advanced on an Orlando Olivera ground out. The Cardinals led 2-0 after two.

They took that 2-0 lead into the top of the eight when Landon Beck came on to pitch. Jonah Heim led off the inning with a single for the Stone Crabs and got to third on a one-out single by Riley Unroe. Joe McCarthy followed Unroe's single up with a single of his own to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Cody Schumacher then came on to replace Beck. Grant Kay tied things up with a single. Schumacher then got out of the eighth with a ground out and a fly out.

The Cardinals would go back up in the bottom of the eighth 3-2. Spitz and Olivera started things off with a pair of singles. Bean then advanced both runners on a ground ball to the right. Andrew Sohn connected on a one out single to plate the run in the eighth.

Dakota Hudson then came on to close it out in the ninth, but would fail to do so. He gave up a single Cristian Toribio and a walk to Thomas Milone to start the ninth. Heim tried to lay down a sacrifice bunt, but Hudson got Toribio out at third. Jake Cronenworth loaded the bases with a single and one out. Hudson then got Milone out on a force at home for the second out. On the first pitch McCarthy, Hudson would throw a wild pitch that allowed Heim to score from third and tie the game at three. Hudson then ended the ninth with a strike out.

Kyle Grana came on and pitched the tenth and the eleventh allowing only one base runner to reach on a walk. Michael Pritchard got things started in the bottom of the eleventh as he legged out a double to start the inning. Grayson would then get him to third on a ground ball to second. With one out Dylan Tice came up and drove a 2-2 pitch to right center to drive in Pritchard for the 4-3 victory.

Stat of the Game

16 - The Cardinals tied a season high of sixteen hits tonight, 15 singles and 1 double, last which was also done on 5/11 against Charlotte as well.

  • Tice extended his hit streak to 11 straight games.
  • Grana picked up his fourth win of the season in the game.
  • Pritchard hit his eighth double on the season in the 11th.
