5 RBIs From Crook Powers Bats Past PawSox

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - After rain, wind, lightning and over 5 hours, the Louisville Bats (36-60) defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox (39-55) by a score of 8-1, in large part due to a career night from Bats designated hitter Narciso Crook.
With 1 out in the top of the third inning and the score knotted up at 0-0, the game was sent into a 2 hour and 19-minute rain delay, before starting back up at 9:06 p.m.
The Bats scored first in the top of the 5^th inning on an unconventional double play. Blake Trahan drove in Alex Blandino from third on a sacrifice fly, but the runner on second, Narciso Crook, was thrown out trying to advance to 3^rd base to end the inning.
Pawtucket wasn't down for long, scoring in particularly impressive fashion in the bottom half of the 5^th. After 2 walks during the inning, a double steal was put on, as Tzu-Wei Lin stole second base and catcher Juan Centeno stole home. Stealing home is a spectacular accomplishment on its own, but it is even better considering this was Centeno's first stolen base of the season.
The Bats broke open the game in the top of the 7^th. Nick Longhi started the inning with a double before Brian O'Grady reached on an error and Blandino walked, loading up the bases with no outs. The very next batter, Narciso Crook, cleared the bases with a triple. Stuart Turner added another run with a double in the next at-bat. After the PawSox recorded the first out of the inning, Scott Schebler singled in Turner, knocking Domingo Tapia out the game, who was replaced by Trevor Kelley. Kelley recorded the next two outs without any additional runs, but Pawtucket still looked at a 6-1 hole after 7 innings of play.  
Louisville would add two more in the bottom of the 8^th, as Crook blasted a two-run homerun off Trevor Kelley. Crook had one of the best games of his career tonight, going 3-3, with a triple, homerun and 5 RBIs.
Right fielder Cole Sturgeon took the mound in the 9^th inning for Pawtucket, making his fourth career appearance at the professional level. He was great tonight despite being a position player, throwing a perfect inning while striking out one batter.
Erasmo Ramírez got the start tonight, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings before being replaced following the rain delay. The bullpen pieced together the remainder of the game with Jordan Weems, Domingo Tapia, Trevor Kelley, and Cole Sturgeon all pitching for Pawtucket. Tapia took the loss after giving up 5 runs, 4 of them earned in 1.1 innings of work. This moves his record to 2-2 on the season.
Alex Wood made his third rehab start this season for the Bats, recovering from a lingering back injury, pitching 2 scoreless innings, again due to the extensive rain delay. This is Wood's first season with the Reds organization after being traded from the Dodgers this offseason.
The PawSox wrap up their 4-game series with the Bats at 11:05 with Pawtucket sending 25-year old righty Teddy Stankiewicz (4-5, 4.12 ERA) to the mound against 2012 former 1^st round pick Lucas Sims (5-0, 4.56 ERA).
Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 10:35 p.m.
This 12-game homestand represents the longest scheduled homestand for the PawSox in 27 years - since a 12-game homestand in 1992 (from July 29 - August 9).
The Charlotte Knights come to town over the weekend of July 19-21 for a 3-game set highlighted by Saturday, July 20 at 6:15 pm on Alex Cora World Series Champion Bobblehead Night followed by Margaritaville post-game Fireworks.
