Espinal Fires 7 Strong, PawSox Fall to RailRiders

Travis Continues On-Base Streak Despite 4-0 Loss

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (48-35) took game two of this three-game series by a score of 4-0 against the Pawtucket Red Sox (33-49), thanks in large part to 7 shutout innings from starter Raynel Espinal.
It was the first time this season that the PawSox were shutout.
The RailRiders opened up the scoring with a second inning home run off the bat of right fielder Trey Amburgey. They didn't stop there, scoring two more on a double by Wendell Rijo, driving in Ryan McBroom and Billy Burns and putting Scranton Wilkes-Barre up 3-0.
Third baseman Mandy Alvarez would add one more for the RailRiders, lining a one-out single into centerfield, scoring Tyler Wade and making the score 4-0.
Sam Travis returned to Pawtucket after a brief stint with the Red Sox by going 1-for-3 with a single and a walk, continuing his on-base streak to 34 games. He is now only two shy of the highest such streak in the International League this season, which is held by Travis Demeritte of the Gwinnett Stripers (36 games).
Heath Hembree made his first relief appearance on his rehab assignment (right elbow extensor strain), going 1 inning while striking out 2 in the process. Hembree threw 16 pitches, 12 being strikes during the outing.
Tyler Thornburg made his 9th rehab appearance tonight, tossing a scoreless inning, his 3rd straight scoreless appearance for Pawtucket. Thornburg touched 95 miles-per-hour with his fastball.
On the mound today was lefthanded pitcher Kyle Hart, who pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out a total of 4 batters. He took the loss today, moving his record to 3-3.
The PawSox wrap up this three-game series with the RailRiders tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. Pawtucket right-hander Teddy Stankiewicz (4-4, 3.90) is scheduled to oppose RailRiders righty Adonis Rosa (1-0, 4.84).
The game will be televised live on YurView on COX. Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 5:35 p.m.
 
Patriotic Post-Game Fireworks will follow tomorrow night's game. The PawSox will return home on July 11 (Thursday) following the All-Star Break. On July 12th (Friday), the first 3,000 fans will receive a Jackie Bradley Jr. Gold Glove bobblehead at McCoy Stadium. On July 14 (Sunday), the first 4,000 fans will receive a PawSox cap, compliments of the Rhode Island Lottery & WEEI-FM.
