PAWTUCKET, RI – The Pawtucket Red Sox will begin their 50th Anniversary Celebration tomorrow, on the date of the originally scheduled Opening Day, Thursday, April 9, at 5 p.m., on pawsox.com and the club’s social media outlets. PawSox play by play announcers will describe the action live as they watch “MLB The Show,” featuring the 2020 PawSox versus the 2020 Boston Red Sox.

Announcers Josh Maurer, Jim Cain, and Mike Antonellis will welcome fans, then show a recorded greeting that Public Address announcer Ben DeCastro recorded this week at McCoy Stadium. A rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” follows (suitable for singing along at home), and then the action begins on “MLB The Show,” the popular video game that is accessible on Twitch, (twitch.tv/AAA_RedSox).

Fans can simply click at the prompt on pawsox.com, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and enjoy an imaginary game featuring stars fans know very well.

“While we continue our efforts to address the needs of the community as we wage this battle against this dangerous virus, we seek to also give fans the type of solace that baseball so often provides,” said PawSox President Dr. Charles A. Steinberg. “For the young, and particularly for the young-at-heart, we hope that this live version of an imaginary game brings smiles, connection, and a reminder of our faith in the resumption of our normal lives.

“Our National Pastime has always been there for us when we have needed it most, and we hope that this version of baseball brings a touch of joy into your homes.”

Special guests are also expected to join the stream.
