Halfway Home - The Pawtucket Red Sox - who enjoyed their last scheduled off-day yesterday until the All-Star Break three weeks from now (July 9-11) - return to action tonight at McCoy Stadium to start a 7-game homestand in 6-nights beginning today at 4:35 pm with a make-up doubleheader against the Buffalo Bisons (AAA-Toronto). Today marks the halfway point to the PawSox home season in terms of scheduled openings (#35 out of 70). Pawtucket will have 35 home games (in 35 home dates) remaining after tonight. This homestand also includes the official start to summer (this Thursday) when these teams play the finale of their 4-game set that evening on NESN (the Sox and Bisons play single games tomorrow and Thursday both at 6:15 pm). Another exciting weekend is on tap this Friday - Sunday at McCoy when the PawSox host the Syracuse Chiefs to conclude Pawtucket's second of two homestands here in June. Friday at 7:05 pm will be Pedro Martinez replica jersey night, Saturday at 6:15 pm will feature Beatles post-game fireworks, and Sunday at 1:35 pm will be highlighted by a tribute to the Armed Services before the game and Run the Bases after.
Double Your Pleasure - Tonight's twinbill was necessitated by a May 15 rainout at McCoy…the last time the PawSox have had a game postponed this season (they have had a snowout, a rainout, and a game cancelled at home thus far and 1 rianout on the road that was made-up at McCoy). Pawtucket split their first doubleheader this year on April 23 at home vs. Toledo (from an April 15 rain-out in Toledo)…the Mud Hens won Game 1, 3-0 but the PawSox won the nightcap, 6-4 in 8-innings. One month later the Sox were swept in their other twinbill this season also at home on May 26 vs. Lehigh Valley by scores of 6-3 and 6-2.   The PawSox do not have another doubleheader on the docket (knock on wood). Pawtucket played in 11 doubleheaders last season which tied with Rochester and Syracuse for the most in the league in 2017. The Sox posted three sweeps, were swept five times, and also were involved in three doubleheader splits last year. The PawSox last swept a doubleheader on July 28, 2017 at Indianapolis by 5-0 and 2-1 scores.
