Lehigh Valley IronPigs RHP Enyel De Los Santos (5-1, 1.39) vs. Pawtucket Red Sox RHP William Cuevas (1-2, 4.75)
The Beat Goes On - The Pawtucket Red Sox look to get in the win column in this series and snap their season-high 5-game losing streak when they play the penultimate game of their 5-game, 4-day wrap-around holiday weekend series against the 1st-place Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA-Philadelphia) today at 1:35 pm at McCoy Stadium. The PawSox were swept in a doubleheader last night by scores of 6-3 and 6-2 after dropping the series opener to the IronPigs on Friday, 6-4. So Lehigh Valley has scored 6 runs in each of the first 3-games (with 8 HR) while the Sox have gone from 4 to 3 to 2 runs in each of the 3-games. Today's game is again televised live on myRITV throughout Rhode Island and Bristol County, MA.
Temperature Falling - Only in New England…the game time temperature for yesterday's doubleheader was a season-high 88 degrees. Today's temp at 1st pitch will be about 30 degrees colder (it is 56 degrees as of 11 am).
Five Down - The PawSox season-high 5-game losing streak is their longest since an 8-game losing streak last July 29 - August 6. The skid began with back-to-back losses to Scranton/WB last Wednesday (7-1) and Thursday (3-1) and has continued with three consecutive defeats to Lehigh Valley the past two nights. The Sox have been out-scored, 28-11 in the 5 losses. Pawtucket is batting .214 in their last 5 games (33-for-154) while PawSox pitchers are 0-5 with a 6.15 ERA (28 ER in 41 IP).
This Homestand and the Road Ahead - Pawtucket's season-long 9-game homestand (2-4 thus far) concludes tomorrow (Memorial Day Monday) with another 1:35 pm matinee vs. the IronPigs to cap the holiday weekend. After that game, Pawtucket will not return to McCoy until June 5 vs. Louisville at 6:15 pm. They will head out on a 6-game roadtrip on Tuesday that will include 3-games in Norfolk against former manager Ron Johnson and former pitching coach Mike Griffin, who are in their 7th season leading the Tides, (games Tuesday - Thursday are all at 6:35 pm). The trip will continue with a 3-game series next weekend in Durham for games vs. the 1st-place Bulls on Friday (7:05 pm), Saturday (6:35 pm), and one week from today on Sunday at 5:05 pm. After an off-day on June 4, the PawSox will begin a 6-game homestand from June 5-10 that features 3-game sets against both Louisville and Indianapolis.
Last Chasing First - The last-place PawSox, who have dropped 15 of their last 19 games since May 7, are now a season-high -8½ GB of 1st-place Lehigh Valley. Three weeks ago (May 6 & 7), Pawtucket was in 1st-place in the IL North with Lehigh Valley close behind. Since then, specifically May 8 after the IronPigs beat the PawSox, it's been all Lehigh Valley as the Pigs have won 14 of their last 19 games and have been atop the division ever since (19 straight days) while the Sox have spent time in 2nd, 4th, 5th, and currently 6th-place.
