PAWTUCKET, R.I. - The Rochester Red Wings (25-33) swept their doubleheader with the Pawtucket Red Sox (26-34) at McCoy Stadium on Friday, taking game one 19-4 and winning game two by a final of 7-4..
In game one, the Red Wings exploded for a season-high 19 runs in the victory. They scored their runs in bunches, grabbing four in the second inning, six in the third, two in the sixth, and seven in the seventh.
Lead-off man Luis Arraez led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a double and 5 RBI's. Every member of the lineup had at least one hit.
Coming into the day, the Red Wings were 11th in the International League with a .254 batting average with runners in scoring position. In game one, they were 12-for-19 with RISP.
The Red Wings batted around three times in the seven innings.
In the seventh inning, Jantzen Witte came on and made his first-career pitching appearance.
Juan Centeno ripped his second home run of the year in the sixth inning. For Centeno, he now has 12 RBI's in his last 12 games.
In game two, Rochester struck first once again, but came from behind in the seventh and final scheduled inning off Jenrry Mejia.
Jake Cave got the scoring going with a ground-rule double to left to make it 1-0. They added another in the second on the first of Drew Maggi's two home runs on the night.
Pawtucket got a run in the third on Josh Tobias's second home run of the season.
The PawSox took their first lead of the day in the fifth by plating a pair, one on an RBI double from Chad De La Guerra, and the second on a sacrifice fly from Tobias. That made it 4-2.
Over his last 10 games, De La Guerra is now 11-for-38 with 3 home runs, 3 doubles and 8 RBI's.
Trailing 4-2 entering the seventh, Rochester batted around and scored five times. Maggi's second homer of the game (this one a two-run shot) tied it at 4. Four batters later, Brent Rooker mashed a three-run shot to center to make it 7-4.
The PawSox continue their series with the Red Wings tomorrow night at 6:15 p.m. Pawtucket right-hander Josh Smith (2-2, 5.23 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Red Wings righty Randy Dobnak (0-1, 3.09 ERA).
The game will be televised live on myRITV and Charter TV 3. Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 5:45 p.m.
Tomorrow is Star Wars fireworks night. Sunday, June 9, is the 7th Annual Bark in the Park, where fans who purchase a General Admission ticket are allowed to bring their dog to the game. Dogs and their owners are invited to participate in an on-field parade prior to the game. Sunday is also another Family Funday, which includes a pre-game catch on the field and post-game run the bases.
