Player/Pitcher of the Week Awards
• James Ramsey: (4/4-14) Over a period of 10 games he went 15-36 with 4 2B, 2 3B, HR, 4 RBI, 6 BB and a stolen base.
•Anthony Garcia: (6/3-9) Played in 7 games (all on the road) where he went 11-28 (.392) including 9 extra-base hits. He collected 10 RBI on 3 2B, 3B and 5 HR.
•Nick Longmire: (6/17-23) Played in 7 games where he compiled a .556 batting average (15-27) while collecting 6 RBI on a HR, 3B, 2 2B and 11 1B.
•Anthony Garcia: (6/24-30) Played in 7 games (5 on the road)where he had 12 hits in 28 plate appearances (.429). Collected 4 RBI on a pair of home runs and 5 doubles. Out of the 7 games during span, he pieced together 3 multi-hit games, 2 of which were 3-hit performances.
•Ryan Sherriff: (7/29-8/4) On August 3rd, he orchestrated a complete game (9 inning), 1-hit shutout against the Dunedin Blue Jays. Sherriff was working on a no-hit bid until giving up the 1 and only hit to leadoff the 9th inning. The outing marked the only 9-inning complete game for a Palm Beach starter in this season.
• Jonathan Rodriguez: (7/29-8/4) Played in 7 games (all on the road) where he tallied 12 hits in 26 plate appearances for a .426 batting average. He collected 9 RBI on 3 2B and 3 HR throughout the week. Out of the 7 games, Rodriguez produced 5 multi-hit outings.
St. Louis Cardinals Player of the Month Awards
•Anthony Garcia: (June) Garcia batted .385 (25-65) with seven home runs and 14 RBI during the month while posting a 1.298 on-base+slugging percentage (OPS) at Palm Beach. He raised his batting average from .181 to .244 and his seven home runs were third most in the Florida State League for June.
• Jonathan Rodriguez: (July) The San Juan, Puerto Rico native compiled a hefty .382 batting average while collecting 28 RBI on 7 doubles and 6 home runs. Throughout the 25 games in July, Rodriguez also collected 11 multi-hit games, a .663 slugging percentage, .441 on-base percentage and stole three bases.
From July 12-23, Rodriguez strung together 8 consecutive games where he collected at least one RBI. Adding to the successful month, he had a two home run game which included his first career grand slam against the Tampa Yankees on July, 21st at Roger Dean Stadium.
FSL Topps Player of the Month
•David Popkins: (June) He had hits in his first dozen games of the month on his way to leading the Florida State League with a .413 batting average. The outfielder also topped the league with 38 hits. He ranked among the top five in OBP (2nd, .450), OPS (3rd, 1.048), slugging percentage (4th, .598); and runs (5th, 18).
Starters Finish Strong
The Cardinals went 16-14 during the month of August, the best monthly result for the team in 2013. Their August success was in large part due to the stellar numbers put up by the trio of starting pitchers Joe Cuda (3-0, 1.79 ERA) Kurt Heyer (3-2, 1.47 ERA) and Ryan Sherriff (1-1, 1.87 ERA).
On August 27th, Joe Cuda and Thomas Lee combined to throw the Cardinals 12th combined shutout of the 2013 season, T2nd most in FSL regular season.
