Bats Are Silenced in 1-0 Loss

Jones Tossed Six Shutout Innings

Jupiter, FL - The Tampa Yankees (8-5) shutout the Palm Beach Cardinals (7-6) by a final of 1-0 as they scored in the ninth inning to take the victory.

The Rundown

Connor Jones pitched a magnificent game as he got the start for Dann Bilardello's Palm Beach Cardinals. He threw six shutout innings allowing only two hits, walking three and striking out two. He gave up one hit in the first inning as a come backer hit off the tip of his glove, but the runner was erased on a double play.

Taylor Widener pitched a gem himself as the Beach Birds were held without a hit until the fourth inning. Edmundo Sosa laced a double to right field, but was stranded at third as Widener got Turgeon to ground out and he struck out Chris Chinea.

Juan Perez relieved Jones in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings, giving up 1 hit walking one and striking out two others. Ian McKinney came into the game in the ninth of a scoreless game. He struck out Nick Solak to start the ninth. He walked Abiatal Avelino who got to second on a stolen base. Jhalan Jackson struck out with Avelino standing on second for the second out. Sharif Othman broke up the tie with a single through the middle past a diving Edmundo Sosa, allowing Avelino to score.

The Cardinals would come up in the ninth and go down in order and lose by a final of 1-0.
