Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (15-15) and the Lakeland Flying Tigers (16-15) went 14 innings on Sunday afternoon, where the Tigers came out on top 2-1.
Marco Gonzales pitched in his first game since 2015 after Tommy John surgery. He pitched six innings only throwing 73 pitches, 52 for strikes. He gave up two hits, one run, striking out seven and walking none. The one run he gave up was a home run to Will Allen in the second inning.
The Cardinals tied the game 1-1 in the fifth inning. Randy Arozarena got to second on a dropped fly ball by Ben Verlander. Blake Drake hit his fourth double in three games to drive in Arozarena and tie the game.
Dailyn Martinez came in and tossed a scoreless seventh, Ross Vance tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth to get the game to extra innings. Brennan Leitao tossed a scoreless tenth. Ian McKinney came in to start the eleventh and tossed three scoreless innings, getting out of a bases loaded jam in both the twelfth and thirteenth. In the fourteenth, McKinney started the inning with a ground out and walked a runner. He then gave over to Landon Beck who gave up a single getting the runner to third. He then gave up a sacrifice fly to give up the go ahead run and make it 2-1 Lakeland.
Casey Turgeon got on in the bottom of the 14th and got to second on a pop out in foul territory. With Blake Drake up to bat, Turgeon got to third on a wild pitch. Blake Drake struck out swinging to end the game and give the Tigers the 2-1 victory.
