Junior Fernandez Throws Six Scoreless Innings

Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (51-73, 19-37) lost 3-1 on Saturday night as the St. Lucie Mets (65-57, 30-25) scored all three runs in the seventh without recording a hit.

The Rundown

Junior Fernandez (0-2, 7.18 ERA) had his best outing of the season as he tossed six scoreless innings, giving up five hits, walking two and striking out three. He gave the ball to Daniel Bard (0-1, 54.00 ERA) to start the top of the seventh.

The Mets scored three in the top of the seventh as Bard hit Luis Guillorme to start the frame. He walked Jhoan Urena and Jonathan Johnson to load the bases. Bard then hit Patrick Biondi to bring in the first run for either side. Blake McKnight (3-6, 3.14 ERA) came on to pitch with the bases loaded and nobody out. He walked his first batter Kevin Kaczmarski to make it 2-0. He got a double play ball off the bat of Kevin Taylor that scored Johnson to make it 3-0 and got out of the inning with a ground ball to short.

The Cardinals got one back in the seventh as Sohn walked to start the inning and got to second after Oscar Mercado got hit by a pitch. Juan Herrera grounded into a double play to get Sohn to third and Brayan Pena hit a single to drive in Sohn for the only Cardinals score of the night to make it 3-1.

McKnight and Landon Beck (1-4, 3.97 ERA) tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth, but the Cardinals only had one base runner in the final two frames to lose by a final of 3-1 to the Mets.

Next Up

The Cardinals will conclude a three game series tomorrow against the St. Lucie Mets, as it will be the last time the Mets play at Roger Dean Stadium this season. The game will start at 1:00 PM as Brennan Leitao will take the mound for the Cardinals.
